Fraud Investigator
Momnt is looking for a fraud investigator to conduct financial crime investigations of merchant and consumer activity and make recommendations for closing account relationships with the risk management team.
This person will identify and investigate merchants and consumers on our point-of-need consumer lending platform suspected of identity theft, committing financial crimes, and/or acting materially outside of the scope of our contractual agreements.
This position will also review, analyze, and handle escalated complaints pertaining to legal and regulatory complaints and claims of fraud and/or identity theft. The position will regularly collaborate with other members of the Compliance team, Risk, Merchant Success, and Legal Teams.

Hybrid | Sandy Springs, GA – This position requires collaboration in-office. Relocation is not available at this time.

As a Fraud Investigator, you will:
- Identify and investigate merchants or consumers on our platform suspected of breaking laws, committing financial crimes, and/or acting well outside of our contracts with merchants/consumers.
- Manage the investigative process from initial detection to disposition.
- Initiate investigation by gathering facts and evidence; prepare investigative summaries; document findings while examining the current control environment; prepare or assist financial institution partners in creating unusual or suspicious activity reports; run appropriate database checks.
- Contact customers as needed to gather additional information and ensure a thorough, accurate investigation.
- Conduct investigations that meet the expectations of regulators and other compliance stakeholders.
- Maintain current knowledge and awareness of investigative/fraud techniques, privacy laws, bank regulations, red flags, identity theft policies, incident response policies, merchant monitoring, and other related policies and procedures.
- Assist with the development, implementation, and monitoring of fraud prevention initiatives
- Formulate and recommend responses to potentially suspicious findings, reporting such activity to the appropriate regulatory stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties in this job classification.
You’d be a good fit if you have:
- 3+ years of related Financial crime investigation experience
- Ability to successfully identify and recommend actions related to red flags, identity theft, and other areas of merchant and consumer fraud.
- A strong investigative mindset where critical thinking is applied, exemplified by a number of attributes: professional skepticism, a meticulous and consistent approach to research and analytics, and the ability to thoroughly articulate a defense for conclusions reached.
- Working knowledge of fraud detection/prevention principles and BSA/AML compliance as it applies to suspicious activity for money laundering, terrorist financing, and fraud.
- Understanding of complex financial transactions, business relationships and relationships between business entities.
- Ability to meet deadlines, work independently, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to handle confidential, delicate, and/or sensitive information or situations.
- A bachelor's degree in a related field or a combination of investigative experience.
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) highly preferred.
